Palestine Day |
|||
Exeter branch held its second annual Palestine Day event on 27 November 2004, in conjunction with the School of Arab and Islamic Studies at Exeter University. It included poetry readings and music, workshops on Palestinian history, Palestinian citizens of Israel, dealing with the media, campaigning for trade sanctions, and issues for peace activists. There was an impressive range of stalls, and visiting children were helped to produce some excellent works of art. Speakers in the plenary session covered refugees and the right of return, the political situation after Arafat, and a peace activist spoke of her experience. There was a live phone link with a peace worker in Palestine, and several attempts to talk live with Mordechai Vanunu, probably thwarted by the Israeli authorities. Overall the event was very well supported, with about 250 people attending. |
